Leanne Soucek of Tutoring2E.com

This is my goal: to find keys to unlock the doors of each student’s heart and mind, using conversational connection, relevant metaphors, imagery, intuition, building projects, drawing, visuals, art, scribing, exercise, movement, math manipulatives, nature, taking as much time as needed--in short, whatever is necessary to first build a sense of trust, and then to achieve success through breaking down barriers to learning.  No two brains are exactly alike, nor should every student be expected to learn in the same (neurotypical) ways.

I empathize deeply with my students, having experienced and overcome struggles with significant early math challenges.* I provide a full spectrum of educational experience, having worked with students from diverse backgrounds and circumstances: college prep, vocational-technical, day treatment, wilderness therapy, and superlative alternative programs. Most recently, I have worked for five years as the case manager and special education teacher for a highly achieving college preparatory, STEM high school.

It continues to be my joy to help each student gain a sense of who they are as a unique person and learner and to find strategies that work best for them to achieve success, especially in struggle areas. Working with students with diagnoses of ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, Dyscalculia, Severe Affective Needs, Environmental Illness, and a variety of mental illnesses, I bear witness: "Labels” can be peeled away, and every student can start afresh to grow in ways they never dreamed possible. “Math dummy? No way! 2E!"

MULTISENSORY READING COACHING

Leanne Soucek, Tutoring 2E's teacher-tutor, has helped oodles of reluctant readers love reading by first understanding the blocks and feelings associated with reading, identifying student passions, and unearthing the personally-perfect reading materials to connect with the "non-reader." Many previous students say, "This is the first time I have read a whole book." Drawing from data-driven reading supports and a significant library, Leanne works with each student to identify "stuck places" and select strategies for fulfilling growth and reading enjoyment.

MATH COACHING FOR DYSCALCULIA

Tutoring2E evaluates currents skills and experiences to determine blocks, identify growth areas and co-determine each student's personal goals. With documented success over many years, students who never thought they "could" have found "they CAN DO." Using a combination of hands-on lessons, coaching, shared e-whiteboard problem-solving, and video lessons, students find strategies that work for their unique learning styles.

ACADEMICAND CREATIVE WRITING SUPPORTS

Often, twice-exceptional students struggle to formulate ideas, to organize thoughts, and to move from their wonderfully inventive minds onto the page, be it paper or electronic, their creative genius.  Many students who have previously found writing to be torturous become adept, competent writers. Tutoring2e helps students to experience the magic of their ideas and to build skills and confidence to shape their thoughts into pieces that engage audiences and wow teachers. From ABC's to DBQ's, Tutoring2e helps students to master and love writing.

EXECUTIVE FUNCTION COACHING

With still-developing brains, twice-exceptional students often struggle with organizing time, materials, homework, test dates, corrections and technology streams. Executive Function Coaching helps students to explore and choose a variety of prompts (such as e-calendars, texts, calls, day planners, etc.) that work best for them. Sessions include creating an e-calendar for weekly assignment due-dates, tests, projects, corrections, etc. and helping students identify organizational strategies that work best for them. Repetition and consistency with these strategies help rewire the frontal lobe of the brain. Each session includes two 10-minute check-ins to help prompt students with priority tasks.

COLLABORATIVE CONSULTATION

Especially in the unique, return-to-school 2020 fall, parents may want to collaborate in extended conversations to help coach their students with virtual learning, to discuss social-emotional challenges, to plan for upcoming projects, or to prepare for IEP meetings. This collaborative consultation time is especially suited for detailed planning or ongoing areas of parent concern.
